(:

Today was the ap art exam day. I haven't been able to sleep much because I had to finish my portfolio.
Until this morning, my portfolio wasn't done.. Mr. Malady had to help me taking pictures of them to put online. But luckily I had all my stuff done by 12:00 (:
Last year when I signed up for this class, I wasn't really serious about how much work I had to do.
I regretted so many times, even thought about dropping out but now I'm so glad I took this class and completed my portfolio with good pieces.
I'm so proud of myself! From taking AP art made me a better artist and it also realized me that it is what I really love to do.

art portfolio

ap art portfolio is due next friday and I'm still working on it..
I was going to drop out of ap art because I didn't think I could finish 24 pieces by the 6th.
I went to talk to ms. daniels but she said it was too late to do that since I already filled out the form..
but then I thought about it again and it was stupid of me to dropp out because I worked on it so hard almost for a year
If I give up now then I might regret for my whole life haha so I talked to mr. malady about how I'm going to spend time for each artwork so that I can have all 24 finished pieces by next friday
I already have 15 that are done and the rest of them are almost done!
but I'll still have to take pictures of them and write a concentration statement which will take some time
I want to be done with this as soon as possible so I don't have to come home and draw all night ):

Street Art

I had a hard time thinking about what to write because
I already have many posts about just normal paintings and artists.
So I wanted to do something different and I thought of street art.
Last year in art 2, Mr. Malady showed us these cool pictures of street art.
It was really interesting and something new. I was amazed at how realistic it looked.

definition for STREET ART - any art developed in public spaces including in the streets themselves.

AP Art Portfolio

I've been very busy lately because of art.
Honestly, I didn't think taking AP art would be this hard.
Heres what I have to have for my art portfolio..
12 concentration - I have to have 12 drawings with the same topic which is penguins
12 breadth - breadth pieces are just the drawings that shows my skills, using different midiums
5 quality - for quality, I can either create 5 quality works or I can just use 5 works from my breadth, or concentration. But it has to be really good, detailed drawings.
so far I have 10 concentration, 8 breadth, and 4 quality pieces.. and the problem is thery aren't finished..
I have to have at least 24 works by april 26th.
Last year when I was in Art 4, I didn't work hard because I had 2 art classes
and I thought I had plenty of time to do all theses works.
But as time gets closer I have realized that I have to do my best to finish my drawings.
I really hope that I can get the score I want (:

Audrey Kawasaki

I wish I could draw half as good as Audrey Kawasaki!
She  is 28 years old, Japanese-American from LA.
She is famous for her unique and distinctive style.
I think she is the most amazingest illustrator in the world.
All of her works are done in oil paint on wood panels.
Her style is a fusion  Art Nouveau and Japanese manga.
The girls in her illustrations look so innocent but slightly erotic at the same time, I think that's why people love her and makes her unique.
I've never used oil before. I've only used acrylic on canvas but oil on wood gives smooth texture and it is easier to paint because acrylic only gives you few minutes to blend the colors, but oil paints take up to a week to completely dry. I'd love to try it out!

Miyazaki Hayao

Howl's Moving Castle's theme song ♥

Miyazaki Hayao is a Japanese film director, screenwriter, character designer,
animator, storyboard artist and manga artist.
I first watched his movie called "Howl's Moving Castle" when I was in 5th grade
and since then He's been my biggest inspiration.
I never watch same movie more than once and his movies are exception..
I probably watched Howl's Moving Castle more than 10 times and I cry evertime I watch it.
The great thing about him is that he uses the traditional animation process which means he hand draws everything. I love how the colors are so vivid and the details are amazing.
His movies always have themes about fantasy and other worlds, and yet there's something
so elementally human, and basic.
If I have a chance to go to Japan again, I wanna go to Ghibli Museum ♥(designed by Miyazaki Hayao).

History of illustration

Since my blog is going to be about illustration, I thought It'd be great to talk about the history.

Definition of ilustration is a displaye visualization form presented s a drawing, painting, photograph or other work of art that is creted to dlucidate or dictate sunsual inforation (such as a story, poem or newspaper article) by providding a visual representation graphically.

The first illustrations were cave paintings in Europe. The purpose of the cave paintings is not known.
Some people say that they may have been a way of communicating with others.
They mostly painted large animals like horses and deer.

In the Middle Ages, illustrations were used on books. Books were made working over coat or cow leather and using the "illumination" technique.

In 1851, artist Edmund Evans and Kate Greenaway began to print children's toy books and picture books.
That's when they first started using color in illustrations.

The book illustration art was on the peak of its popularity in the 19th century.
It's called "the golden age of illustration".
Improvements in printing technology helped illustrators to experiment with color and new rendering techniques. Many illustrators in this time became rich and famous.

Today, illustration is more than just advertising products and tranfering information. Illustrations are becoming valued as popular and profitable art works especially in South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong
